Hans Scheib Germany, b. 1949

Biography

Scheib was born in Potsdam in 1949. He lives in Berlin.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. He has been honored with the Egmont Schaefer Drawing Prize and the Prize for the Promotion of Art from the Berlin Academy of the Arts.

 

Scheib is known for his wood and bronze sculptures, although he has also produced notable drawings, woodcuts, and lithographs, as well as a series of paper cut-outs. His silkscreened wooden sculptures reveal a sensibility that lies between boldness and contemplation.

 

His work has been exhibited at galleries and institutions such as Anna Zorina Gallery, New York; the National Museum, Brasília; the Museum of Young Art, Frankfurt; Zitadelle Spandau, Berlin; the Leonhardi Museum, Dresden; Art Forum, Helsinki; and the Ludwig Museum, Cologne.

 

His works are included in prestigious public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, Berlin; the Albertinum, Dresden; the Grassi Museum, Leipzig; the National Gallery, Berlin; and the National Art Museum of China, Beijing.
