Ten people attack an eleventh person, who spews a jet of blood from his mouth. Drawing on his animated video of the same name, Cueto portrays himself as a victim of criticism—this time in a literal sense.
Cueto works in a wide variety of formats, ranging from drawing to installation, including videos and interventions in literary works, and draws on his everyday experiences to explore common themes such as the tensions within the art world and how power structures are replicated within it. When he portrays himself, he ironically adopts the role of a “martyr of art” who allows himself to be tormented by the current phenomenon of conceptualization and discourse—which he refuses to accept but from which he cannot emerge unscathed.
