Two women and a man with distorted heads pose in front of a red structure. The background of the painting consists of lush, flowering foliage. Eyes are painted onto the figures' clothing, and a leopard-print blanket lies at the feet of one of them, adding a wild element to the vivid colors that dominate the work. The variety of brushstrokes and the painting's large scale also contribute to a certain sense of ferocity.
Varelas begins by setting up a scene where he photographs and films his models. Working from these portraits, he experiments with combinations of brushstrokes to capture the figures' maximum expressiveness, placing them within psychological landscapes defined by an abundance of vivid color.
