A nighttime scene in a parking lot—somewhere between a votive offering and a teen movie. There are cars, a waitress standing in the doorway of the establishment, customers, and signs advertising chain stores... It is all richly colored and possesses a slightly magical air, especially given the magnificent cosmic spectacle of comets and shooting stars unfolding in the sky—a sky to which the figures seem to be turning their backs.
Esther Pearl’s work draws inspiration from her father and her childhood. She specializes in depicting scenes of everyday life in settings such as farmland, highways, pawnshops, playgrounds, and parking lots, complementing these images with brief, diary-like inscriptions in the corner of each painting and the presence of flying saucers that illuminate the scenes.
