A woman lies in a daze on a bed, naked except for stockings reaching halfway up her thighs and high-heeled shoes. Her long hair is spread out over the pillow, and her legs are spread wide enough to clearly reveal her genitals, from which a thin trickle of blood flows, connecting to one of the two floating skulls that form part of the painting’s most ghostly element.
Kahlhamer’s work explores the influence of Native American tribes on his own identity by intertwining his life experiences with mythology. His expressionist and surrealist style is also inspired by country music, punk culture, graffiti aesthetics, and comic books.
