With the aim of promoting international contemporary art and artistic work centered on portraiture, Amparo and Manuel Foundation presented —for the first time in Mexico— a solo show by Ghanaian artist Rufai Zakari at the San Luis Potosí Arts Center Gallery.

Rufai Zakari (Ghana, 1990) grew up in Bawku, a city in northern Ghana, where he became familiar with recycled materials at an early age. As a child, he and his friends would search for milk cartons and wrappers, transforming them into all kinds of toys. This habit, which began as play, evolved into a fundamental part of his artistic career; collecting wrappers for his artworks serves as a call to reflect on issues vital to his local community and the global context—such as industrialization, consumerism, pollution, and climate change.

Zakari features members of his community—particularly women—as the central figures in his work, giving them a voice and recognition. The exhibition, titled Enigyee (which translates to "Enjoyment"), reflects the optimism imbued in his art; rather than portraying the ravages of conflict in Ghana, he highlights the positive aspects of the society he lives in, capturing this through his subjects' expressive poses, colorful attire, and intriguing textures.
