The head of a blue dog with yellow eyes and an anxious expression emerges against an orange background of simple flowers. A line the same color as the flowers traces the dog’s silhouette.
Although he painted landscapes, scenes, and characters inspired by folklore, the motif that made George Rodrigue famous was the Blue Dog, which—inspired in part by his dog Tiffany and in part by Cajun myths—he began painting in the mid-1980s. In countless paintings in which the background and setting vary, Rodrigue depicted the figure of the dog—blue with yellow eyes and an alarmed expression. The figure has been used by various brands and corporations to advertise their products.
