Three naked human figures wearing crowns appear on the deck of a ship. The sea is very rough, yet the sun shines radiantly. Here, Andi Fischer takes up a classic theme—the Ship of Fools—and renders it in the style of a child's drawing. The seemingly playful tone is undermined by an imperfection in the sun, which is missing a ray, and above all by the figures' expressions: their mouths are simple lines that convey a sense of unease.
Andi Fischer creates figurative drawings in a naive style, characterized by a youthful spirit and an observant eye toward the history of Western art. His childlike depictions of people and animals—which often mimic iconic paintings—contain a disturbing element, yet they never fully abandon the playful spirit evident at first glance.
