Penny Goring: Unloving Love / El desamor del amor (2026): Colegio de San Ildefonso, Ciudad de México, México - From February 7 to June 7, 2026

Fundación Amparo y Manuel presents the exhibition Penny Goring: Unloving Love / El desamor del amor, curated by Laura Smith (London, United Kingdom), in collaboration with the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso. This exhibition marks the first solo presentation in Mexico of artist Penny Goring (b. 1962, London, United Kingdom), whose work is part of the Amparo y Manuel Collection.

Goring uses her art as a means to process personal trauma, experiences of violence, grief, fear, and powerlessness. Her practice focuses on exploring semi-autobiographical narratives that address austerity, misogyny, discrimination, and control, reflecting a contemporary condition in which violence is structural and commonplace.

The artist works freely across media such as painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture, employing inexpensive materials including pens, fabric, food coloring, and free software such as Microsoft Paint. The central axes of her work revolve around the female form—often distorted and fragmented—and her life-size doll sculptures, which function as self-portraits. These works manifest extreme emotional states and offer protective qualities against the impact of habitual violence. Additionally, her practice serves as an intimately honest record of the United Kingdom’s austerity politics and the cycle of despair generated by systemic neglect.
