Amparo Espinosa Rugarcía established the Espinosa Rugarcía Foundation (ESRU) in 2000, which she continues to lead today. ESRU, which works to promote the educational development of Mexicans, serves as the parent organization for the group of foundations, although each is managed independently. It works to ensure that students throughout Mexico can access the level of education they desire, awarding scholarships to children and adolescents, many of whom are the first in their families to pursue higher education. The scholarships support recipients from elementary school through graduate school.
One of ESRU’s branches is ESRU Escucha, which awards annual scholarships to children with hearing impairments. The program supports these individuals—about fifteen to twenty each year—from their early years through college.
