Trini la Catrini

Amparín Serrano Espinosa

Introducing Trini la Catrini — As part of Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations, Amparo y Manuel Foundation takes a look back at one of the iconic characters created by artist Amparín Serrano Espinosa.

Trini la Catrini and her sisters eagerly await the arrival of November. As the middle sister, Trini is famous for her uncontrollable love of sweets—a passion that has more than once cost her cavities and sudden stomachaches.

Despite swearing that she can handle spicy food like no one else, a classic prank by her older sister—hiding a chili pepper inside a piece of pan de muerto—shatters her pride in an inevitable and hilarious burst of heat.

During this commemorative season, we remember the Mexican artist Amparín Serrano Espinosa and her focus on depicting various national holidays.
