Kent Iwemyr Suecia, b. 1944

Biography

Kent Iwemyr lives and works in Hallstahammar, Sweden, where he was born in 1944.
He studied at Konstfack, the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, where he also worked as an art professor.

At the age of 48, in 1992, he made his exhibition debut at the Magnus Karlsson Gallery in the Swedish city of Västerås. His return to artistic practice was driven by images that had lingered with him since adolescence, and by a desire to tell the stories of people close to him through his distinctive figurative and naïve style. Since then, he has exhibited regularly in Sweden and internationally at galleries and museums such as Magnus Karlsson, Bror Hjorths Hus in Uppsala, V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, the Dalsland Art Museum in Åsensbruk, Anna Zorina Gallery in New York, Jochen Hempel Gallery in Berlin, Jack Hanley Gallery in San Francisco, and Dogenhaus in Leipzig, among others.
